Cross that off my list

Speaking of lists, I really wish there was one for pregnancy. When we got married, I used The Knot. It was a fabulous resource; lists of things to do, when I should have them completed, recommended places to shop, and even helpful hints along the way. I have yet to find a resource of this type for pregnancy. (If anyone knows of such a place, let me know. I’m not looking for a forum-I want check lists!) So I have pretty much been left to my own neurosis (and those of people asking me if I have done such-and-such yet, to which I reply, with horror, “Should I have?”).

That said, Simeon and I finally completed the daunting task of creating our registry. Ta-da! We decided to have the bulk of our registry at Babies R Us, but there were a few things they didn’t have so I created one at Target as well. Sure, there are a few things I need to research a little more and will add online (I was not about to make my poor husband stand around while I contemplated breast-pumps. That I can do on my own, thankyouverymuch.) But we got the majority of the if-we-ever-think-we-might-need-it-then-scan-it-with-the-gun shopping done. Now I have to warn you, Simeon got a little excited with the scan gun once we got into the toy department, naturally.

We even tried to be conscientious of those who would be buying these gifts for us, by selecting an array of items in a variety of price ranges. (It always annoyed me when I went to buy something off a registry-wedding, baby, etc.-and there wasn’t a single thing under $75. Way to force me to put a price on our friendship.) Everything from our crib and travel system, all the way down to rattles and Butt Paste. You know, so
Nick would have something to get for us.

  1. Echoing what Heather said. Definately check the weight limits on all the seats/swings you’re asking for. We got an infant-toddler rocker when Gabey was born, so Nikolai could use the "baby" chair if he was feeling unloved. It was good up to 40lbs, and sturdy. If I could remember the name, I’d definately recommend it.

I’m a Huggies lover- they seem to hold the most (only relevant if your child nursed like mine) but cloth diapers are great too.

And if your a nature nerd like me, breastmilk is the best sore bum relief around.

  2. Uh oh. I hate to be a downer, but did you read reviews on the Baby Papasson swing and bouncy seat? I know you can’t trust the reviews all the time, and that that particular seat looks and feels amazingly soft and comfortable, but from actual hands on experience as well as hearing the endless complaining of my friends with babies, I have to let you know you should probably pick another seat. That one, while it looks like it should work for a while, only works for like two months at the most, unless you have a preemie, god forbid. Their heads and legs start hanging over after two months, and you have to take them out and get a new seat! I can’t tell you how many moms I’ve heard complain of this, and I almost got this same seat at a consignment store because it looked so wonderfully cozy, but when I had my friend put her two month old in it to test it out, he totally dwarfed it, and he wasn’t even a big baby!
Just wanted to let you know, so that you don’t have to buy a new one so quickly. Bouncy seats and swings are something you’re going to be using a LOT, and you’ll want it to last for SEVERAL months. After all, they’re not even mobile until about 8 months! So you’re going to want to have a good place to put them for that long, when you need your hands! 😉

  3. You’ve probably already been here, but Pregnancy Weekly online has, well, a list of lists here:

Great registry! I wish we could have registered at Babies R Us, but everybody we know around here who will coming to showers, etc, JUST got used to the idea of a baby registry at all, so I figured I better just do it at Target, where everyone is familiar with it. Gotta love the coast.

  4. Yay, a registry! I have yet to go check it out and see what you have on there, but I will when I have a spare moment. HA! spare moment…
Sorry, daydreaming for a moment there. 😉
Totally agree with Jen though. I think we’ve tried every diaper out there because I was trying to be frugal, but Pampers are the BEST diapers out there. I was so mad when Costco stopped carrying them! But you can get them at Freddies and such, so no worries.

  5. thenest.com should have the same resource as theknot. I check the parenting board all the time on thenest. I am runnerchik just in case you’re ever on there! The babies on he brain board might be good for you also!

  6. Congrats! We havn’t had to use our Butt Paste yet. What a great name huh? I guess those Pampers Swadlers (best diapers ever) keep him dry enough. Even over night, to not get diaper rash. We’re going to try a diaper service beginning next week so maybe with the cloth diapers it’ll change…… if so we’ll switch back. I just feel the need to be environmentally reponsible. We’ll see how long that lasts – haha!
    I miss you guys!
